Three workers were hospitalized, two in serious condition, after “an issue with the scaffolding” at a Fort Lauderdale construction site led them to fall from an unknown height, officials say.

About 8:30 a.m., some kind of problem with the scaffolding led the workers to fall at the site at 475 SW 12th Ave., though they fell no more than two stories, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Garrett Pingol.

“At some point there was an issue with the scaffolding,” Pingol said. “It’s not clear at this time if they fell from the scaffolding or the scaffolding failed.”

Two workers were transported as trauma alerts while a third is in non-serious condition.

A development company known as ATEX group was building apartments at the site, known as Riverland Apartments, according to its website. The project was estimated to be completed in 2023. It is supposed to include three buildings with three levels and over 800 units.
